I recently rediscovered this picture of me at 6 years old, and I'm in love with it. The best part is how my adorable little belly is sticking out happy and relaxed. I look at this and wonder...when did I learn to hate my belly? It definitely happened at a young age, probably 10-11-12 years old. My belly didn't look like my friends' flatter bellies, and somehow that was gross and wrong. And I know that my experience is not a unique one. Today, I'm doing deep work on learning to embrace and free up my body from the shackles of the ideal of my "perfect body", and instead choose to feel happiness for living in the body I have right now. This workshop was designed as a platform for us to explore body image and how our yoga practice can help us rewire the way we think about, treat and feel in our bodies.
The belly is a battleground for body image. Until we heal our relationship to this part of ourselves, we are cut off from the power that resides there: our belly is our physical center, home of our inner guidance. This Forrest Yoga session is designed to guide you to breathe deeply and kindly into your belly, begin to relax and connect to its strength, and start to release guilt and shame you carry inside. Leave this session feeling lighter, stronger and firmly standing in the power of your core. All levels of practitioners welcome, not appropriate for pregnancy.
